The term Avatar is generally synonymous with the metaverse — but in social-networking circles, the term Gravatar has become a widely adopted term. These are the little 75 or 80 pixel square icons that users add to their profiles, or share attached with accounts and services — to display globally in forums, blogs, news sites, […]
- Thu, 22 Nov 2007 at 3:41 pm · Dylan Kuhn over at Cyberhobo.net has a plug-in for geo-mashing blog content with Google Maps. This is the kind of thing I like to see in observing the potentials of social networking and content aggregation. Mix that in with making WordPress capable of parsing out GPS metadata tags in images — and you have something a little closer to what I envision. Another great plug-in to see, is GigPress — a WordPress plug-in that provides chronological event listing, which can also auto-link the event address to Google Maps for display. · (0)

- Wed, 31 Oct 2007 at 7:17 am · YourStreet.com’s hyperlocal news and mapping mash-up goes live. Perhaps the more interesting of the truer Web 2.0-esque news/data confluence mash-ups I’ve seen. The Web interface could use some minor CSS tweaking — but it looks like a great start. [Sources: Slashgeo · All Points] · (0)

- Fri, 29 Jun 2007 at 9:58 am · I just noticed through my MySpace account, that Amber Alert is now present and functional. The current alert was a local notification of a mother and her three children abducted and possibly enroute to Florida in a burgundy colored Dodge Caravan. I had gone back and forth a little with Dave Troy a while back, introducing the idea of an Amber Alert mash-up al la FlickrVision. He liked the idea, but was busy at the time. The main problem I encountered, when looking into Amber Alert — is that the XML feed isn’t publicly accessible. You must first become an approved organization or entity by submitting to the powers-that-be, as well as submit documentation about the system you wish to build or provide. This also leads to what I’ve noticed as being proprietary created software apps that you then have to pay for, just to gain access or present a public service announcement. (So not in the interest of the greater good, one could reason.) · (0)
- Fri, 8 Jun 2007 at 4:35 am · Charles and Aaron over at WordPress Podcast discussed some comments I left regarding an idea that Aaron mentioned he’d had in Episode 24, about a strict form of serving Blog content. It paralleled well to the ideas myself and friends have had about Entity based sharing and confluence via the Web using XML, RSS, etc, and I hoped to highlight some initial concepts. In Episode 25, however, I think what they’re requesting is a bit more ellaboration. · (0)
Entity Factor
April 24th, 2007 · No Comments
A number of years ago, a close friend and I used to talk well on for hours — dreaming of a day when we would potentially become our own “entities” through the Internet. The advent of XML technologies allowed us to establish concepts in our imaginations that it could be possible to integrate a full […]
