Google Maps Quicktag for Wordpress, MU Version
February 24th, 2008 · No Comments
The Google Maps Quicktag for Wordpress plug-in has been updated to include a version for WordPress MU installations, including code contributed by a user.
WordPress MU, by default, does not allow the use of the iframe tag and its attributes, thus preventing the publishing of embedded Google Maps and Street View in MU. What the added […]

Google Chart API Test, Browser Statistics
December 12th, 2007 · No Comments
This entry is simply a test of the Google Chart API. The pie-chart here actually represents the browser usage on this Web site.
There’s obvious use in pulling database queries to build URI strings for visualization via the Web — and for a variety of end-uses. A plug-in for an analytics display page would be just […]

Considering the Impacts of a Future with Android
November 14th, 2007 · No Comments
A little disclaimer: This one’s a bit of a rant, mainly due to the frustrations of the junk I see out there — primarily in relation to those who claim to be journalists just covering and manipulating the markets. They appear to have very little bearing on reality, and that basically frustrates the hell out […]

CSS3 Transparency Hack for LightBox 2
November 7th, 2007 · No Comments
Recently, I added a feature for image viewing when thumbnails are present in the content, which is a plug-in for WordPress called LightBox 2. By default, a user would have clicked an image preview thumbnail and the large image would view in a plain browser window. I had actually implemented a version of LightBox on […]

The Many Faces of Social Networking
October 24th, 2007 · No Comments
The term Avatar is generally synonymous with the metaverse — but in social-networking circles, the term Gravatar has become a widely adopted term. These are the little 75 or 80 pixel square icons that users add to their profiles, or share attached with accounts and services — to display globally in forums, blogs, news sites, […]

As a follow-up concerning Internet Explorer display issues that were previously noted — I back-tracked today to find that those issues appear to have been resolved. No more funky bubbles.

Introducing Global Mapper Forum
September 12th, 2007 · 1 Comment
Global Mapper Forum was established as a valuable resource for anyone working with Global Mapper, or is interested in working in Global Mapper. The video tutorials make it extremely easy to gain insight into the ease of use the interface provides, as well as provides easy to learn steps.

Working Out The Kinks, Google Maps
September 8th, 2007 · No Comments
Google Maps has been actively shaping things up with a handful of issues raised, since ‘embeddable’ Maps were provided. One issue that I noticed yesterday, will hopefully be addressed soon as well. I’ve sent this in to the Google Maps Help Group, so hopefully an employee notices and forwards it on.

Google Embeddable Maps Issue, Part 2
September 5th, 2007 · 1 Comment
This morning, I went through and ran a mark-up validation check with the W3C services to make sure that my site was rendering properly. I generally do this at least once per month to ensure there isn’t anything I’m missing. I’m a major compliance freak when it comes to mark-up!
I fixed the video embedding errors […]

WordPress Plugin, Google Maps Quicktag
August 22nd, 2007 · 50 Comments
Since Google Maps can now be ‘embedded’ in a similar way to YouTube and Google Videos, I decided to create a basic plug-in for WordPress users and share it with whoever might think it’s useful. All it is, is a simple addition of a button in the administration panel editor — which pops open a […]

The Power of Flash
August 8th, 2007 · No Comments
I don’t think I even really need to say anything toward this Flash application example. It’s the fastest serving mapping aggregator I’ve seen yet, and its interface is absolutely what every designer looks for in an application like this — minimalism.

- Fri, 29 Jun 2007 at 9:58 am · I just noticed through my MySpace account, that Amber Alert is now present and functional. The current alert was a local notification of a mother and her three children abducted and possibly enroute to Florida in a burgundy colored Dodge Caravan. I had gone back and forth a little with Dave Troy a while back, introducing the idea of an Amber Alert mash-up al la FlickrVision. He liked the idea, but was busy at the time. The main problem I encountered, when looking into Amber Alert — is that the XML feed isn’t publicly accessible. You must first become an approved organization or entity by submitting to the powers-that-be, as well as submit documentation about the system you wish to build or provide. This also leads to what I’ve noticed as being proprietary created software apps that you then have to pay for, just to gain access or present a public service announcement. (So not in the interest of the greater good, one could reason.) · (0)
Flickervision 3D Using Poly9 Flash
May 20th, 2007 · No Comments
I’m just noticing an added option for viewing the Poly9 FreeEarth 3D version of Flickrvision, developed by Dave Troy. Flickrvision is a Google Maps mash-up that displays the feeds published directly from Flickr, in a geographic context and in near real-time via the Google Maps API. Flickrvision’s sister mash-up development, Twittervision, also has a Poly9 […]

Entity Factor
April 24th, 2007 · No Comments
A number of years ago, a close friend and I used to talk well on for hours — dreaming of a day when we would potentially become our own “entities” through the Internet. The advent of XML technologies allowed us to establish concepts in our imaginations that it could be possible to integrate a full […]

Google Maps, My Maps

Frank Taylor announces the most significant update to Google Maps yet! Google Maps, My Maps, takes the “mash-up” to the next level — allowing full user control in the creation of content for maps through the KML language, and further adding value to true integration with Google Earth!
