The Google Maps Quicktag for Wordpress plug-in has been updated to include a version for WordPress MU installations, including code contributed by a user.
WordPress MU, by default, does not allow the use of the iframe tag and its attributes, thus preventing the publishing of embedded Google Maps and Street View in MU. What the added […]

- Fri, 14 Mar 2008 at 4:10 am · I ran across these two map viewers via Mike Migurski, Mike having involvement with both projects — GSV, or Giant-Ass Image Viewer 1.0, a Javascript and Python library that’ll allow one to generate a viewer for a map, provided as Open Source. And Modest Maps, a Flash equivalent provided as a BSD-license offering. Nicest thing to note with the GSV project — Mike includes a PowersOfTwo.py script, something I typically see lacking in most of these similar types of packages. · (0)

Embed Street View, Google Maps
December 11th, 2007 · 1 Comment
Another early Christmas present — the ability to embed Street View from Google Maps. (How many days of Christmas are there again?):

Google Mobile, My Location for Maps
November 28th, 2007 · No Comments
When the iPhone first came into being, I very quickly noticed the commentary in regards to the lack of GPS being integrated into the device. But even then, I found myself repeatedly asking the questions in the discussion — is it even necessary? I’m fully aware of the triangulation methodologies that exist in wireless, without […]

Google Maps Updates, Terrain
November 28th, 2007 · No Comments
Google Maps has updated with a new hillshaded DEM terrain dataset — which, as you can see below, can also be embedded in your Web page. Flat terrain visualization of this kind can be useful for several content related topics — whether you’re an avid outdoors explorer, camper, mountain biker, or perhaps you’re simply planning […]

- Thu, 22 Nov 2007 at 3:41 pm · Dylan Kuhn over at Cyberhobo.net has a plug-in for geo-mashing blog content with Google Maps. This is the kind of thing I like to see in observing the potentials of social networking and content aggregation. Mix that in with making WordPress capable of parsing out GPS metadata tags in images — and you have something a little closer to what I envision. Another great plug-in to see, is GigPress — a WordPress plug-in that provides chronological event listing, which can also auto-link the event address to Google Maps for display. · (0)

The Web interface could use some minor CSS tweaking — but it looks like a great start. [Sources: Slashgeo · All Points] · (0)

Working Out The Kinks, Google Maps
September 8th, 2007 · No Comments
Google Maps has been actively shaping things up with a handful of issues raised, since ‘embeddable’ Maps were provided. One issue that I noticed yesterday, will hopefully be addressed soon as well. I’ve sent this in to the Google Maps Help Group, so hopefully an employee notices and forwards it on.

Google Embeddable Maps Issue, Part 2
September 5th, 2007 · 1 Comment
This morning, I went through and ran a mark-up validation check with the W3C services to make sure that my site was rendering properly. I generally do this at least once per month to ensure there isn’t anything I’m missing. I’m a major compliance freak when it comes to mark-up!
I fixed the video embedding errors […]

Google Maps Tutorial, Creating Placemarks
August 28th, 2007 · No Comments
With the embedding capability for publishing Google Maps, a common need for publishing a Google Map might be to provide the following:
Address information for a business location, or several locations
Providing directions to or from a business location
Displaying a route of destination-points for a trip or tour
Displaying points of interest you’ve visited
This is done by adding […]

Google Embeddable Maps Issue
August 25th, 2007 · 4 Comments
Nikolas Schiller discovered an interesting problem associated with the new ‘embeddable’ Google Maps. I tried to suggest a couple things to correct for this, but even after seeing if that’d work — I’m also realizing that it’s a major flaw.
The problem is that Google Maps doesn’t allow you to save a link with the target=”_blank” […]

WordPress Plugin, Google Maps Quicktag
August 22nd, 2007 · 46 Comments
Since Google Maps can now be ‘embedded’ in a similar way to YouTube and Google Videos, I decided to create a basic plug-in for WordPress users and share it with whoever might think it’s useful. All it is, is a simple addition of a button in the administration panel editor — which pops open a […]

The Power of Flash
August 8th, 2007 · No Comments
I don’t think I even really need to say anything toward this Flash application example. It’s the fastest serving mapping aggregator I’ve seen yet, and its interface is absolutely what every designer looks for in an application like this — minimalism.

Flickervision 3D Using Poly9 Flash
May 20th, 2007 · No Comments
I’m just noticing an added option for viewing the Poly9 FreeEarth 3D version of Flickrvision, developed by Dave Troy. Flickrvision is a Google Maps mash-up that displays the feeds published directly from Flickr, in a geographic context and in near real-time via the Google Maps API. Flickrvision’s sister mash-up development, Twittervision, also has a Poly9 […]
