The directors for Radiohead’s latest video, House of Cards, used LiDAR to great creative effect. It’s always nice to see someone using such a technology for creative purposes. That’s just my opinion, however. This also has to do with my belief in there being more of a balance in society understanding these technologies more by being exposed to them in various ways, especially when they’re introduced as a medium through art.

Frank Taylor over at Google Earth Blog also has some stuff in relation to Google’s portion of promoting the video. (I’m not sure how they assume Google was directly involved with the making of the video though — that wasn’t Google, that was UCLA.)

I use LiDAR for surveying, just for those that don’t know LiDAR uses an IMU system to fire pulses and receive back-angle and distance.
