I ran across these two map viewers via Mike Migurski, Mike having involvement with both projects — GSV, or Giant-Ass Image Viewer 1.0, a Javascript and Python library that’ll allow one to generate a viewer for a map, provided as Open Source. And Modest Maps, a Flash equivalent provided as a BSD-license offering. Nicest thing to note with the GSV project — Mike includes a PowersOfTwo.py script, something I typically see lacking in most of these similar types of packages.
