A must-see for anyone interested in mid to high-altitude balloon and UAV acquisition systems. (Frank Taylor at Google Earth Blog has also included a well-rounded write-up of the HALO project. — Thanks, Frank!)

Ruzinsky informs me in comments: “I have implemented “gradient domain” seam carving, which eliminates certain kinds of artifacts, in SAR Image Processor v. 3.4 . Example images with artifacts and removal thereof can be found in the SAR manual, http://www.general-cathexis.com/manual2/index.html. SAR is not freeware, but the save disabled demo is free.”

I’ve experimented with Daichi data, and I can confidently assure that it’ll have its use in the visualization markets. I’ve also found that it’s actually a more ideal low-resolution source for colorization of higher resolution sources (with typical compromises) such as WorldView-1, SPOT, and IFSAR — to compliment mid to high-resolution regional datasets (where Daichi imagery is acquired). For the Japanese government, the sensor is certainly not a waste in my opinion.
