Digital Urban has already commented on IMAGTP’s partnership with Crytek to develop next-generation virtual mapping applications, using CryEngine. YouTube videos included there as well from IMAGTP.

Additional Observations

The only online virtual world that I know of that’s already working on CryEngine integration, is MindArk’s Entropia Universe. Of course, that’s a ’synthetic simulation’ gaming environment, not a geodetically accurate environment. But, they’ve already shown some of the artwork in development, and it demonstrates a great deal of promise for online environment deployment.

Note: I do actually play Entropia Universe, though sporadically. It’s more of a fascination for me toward online virtual environment technologies — but be warned, the game itself is highly complex and a bit more like going to your local casino than playing a first-person shooter. It involves actual in-game economics, which makes it incredibly challenging, and probably boring for most. The environment itself is robust, however, and I can imagine it’ll be even more incredible with CryEngine.
