I won’t be attending Max 2007, because registration’s pricey. But, this is something that I suppose I predicted a while back that I think will create an interesting stir at Max this year.:
ESRI to Demonstrate Flex 2 Mapping APIs at Adobe MAX 2007 North America
It’ll be interesting to hear how designers see potential with this API, and to see if ESRI finds a way to break the ice in the design industry. The only immediate caveat that I can see from the Beta page at ESRI, is that it lacks integration with Flash Professional. I predict this will probably be a knee-jerk turn-off for designers and developers, as they’ll see it as inhibitive. Designers and developers on the design side like full control to maximize their options and possibilities, quite frankly.
But, we’ll see. It’s interesting to see ESRI going in this direction — and I’m actually kind of surprised in a way. I didn’t actually expect it to be ESRI running out of the gate with a Flex platform. I had thought, if anything, it would have been a start-up.
