I don’t think I even really need to say anything toward this Flash application example. It’s the fastest serving mapping aggregator I’ve seen yet, and its interface is absolutely what every designer looks for in an application like this — minimalism.

Paul Neave is also a Flash developer / designer that pops-up on the design portal radar here and there. I’ve run across his work several times — and I consider him one of the best. I’m especially digging his more recent direction in design — generating rich experiences through smart, enhanced minimalism.
I really should have titled this entry The Power of Media Temple’s New Grid Service. You might wish to see this — a step in the right direction in the hosting sphere. Something that just set a little lightbulb off in my head.
- 100 GBs of premium storage
- 1 TB of short-path bandwidth
- Host up to 100 individual sites
- 1000 email accounts
- 64 MB Ruby/Mongrel container
- Money Back Guarantee
Oh, and it’s just $20/month with what you get in the list above — and more…
Updates
So the lightbulb went off and I looked back through my hosting plan with Dreamhost. I’ve been with them for around ten years, and I’ve been altogether pleased with them the entire time. After reviewing my current account status, I reaffirmed why it is that I appreciate them more than any of the other hosting packages out there.:
Your Account Provides:
- 387924 MB Disk (Grows 1536 MB / week)
- Used: 3215 MB (0.8% Currently - Overage $.10/MB)
- 4678 GB Bandwidth per Cycle (Grows 24 GB / week)
- Used this Cycle: 0.7 GB (0.0% - Overage: $1/GB)
- 1 Callback per month.
I suppose, despite the attractiveness of Media Temple’s patented server method — I really have to call them out on advertising that the price-point is supposedly not comparable to what others offer. My own account at Dreamhost points-out that that simply isn’t the case. I’m paying less than $15/month and have been accumulating storage and transfer limit over time. Media Temple doesn’t appear to offer the cumulative benefits that I have with Dreamhost.
But it looks like a swell option for those looking for a preconfigured hosting plan, to be able to serve-up or transfer their geospatial data or products.
Digging even further into my own host’s offerings — I ended-up scratching my head over why I must have overlooked an announcement. Not only does your plan cumulatively increase in the way I listed above, but, Dreamhost also provides a service called Files Forever.
What Files Forever is — is you upload a file to the server, and in the Dreamhost Web Panel (your administration page), you set the files you want hosted through this service. Then, Dreamhost will copy those files to an allocated space, where it’ll be hosted forever and at no additional monthly costs except an initial $.01/4MB. From that point, you can then be able to distribute your files (sell them, essentially), and Dreamhost does all the rest — taking [only] a 5% cut.
I think that perhaps another lightbulb has just set off in my head…
