Introduction to Remote Sensing Tools

July 28th, 2007 · No Comments · Trackback/Ping · Share This

Included with the distribution package of Remote Sensing Tools, is a list of the functions for each plugin. I’ve decided to post this information here as well, so that anyone can get an introductory concept of the methods included.

Additional, practical tutorials will become available as well, and as time allows — demonstrating what one can accomplish using this set of plug-ins in the Photoshop® image processing and editing environment, or any compatible image editing host that adheres to the Photoshop plug-in architecture. The core categories of the plugins, such as Convolutions and Conversions are obvious to most, but the Alpha section actually provides some rather useful image processing techniques that are not available in modern image editors, which I’ll be able to elaborate on in the future as to the practicalities of their use.

Quick-start Guide to Remote Sensing Tools

Remote Sensing Tools – Alpha
(Requires transparency layer to exploit the Alpha channel)
Cut Intensity
Cuts transparency based on intensity values of the image.
Cut Null (Black, RGB 0,0,0)
Cuts all black RGB 0,0,0 pixels out of the image.
Extract Maximum (Black - Inverted)
Extracts the maximum values and inverts the pixels.
Extract Maximum (Black)
Extracts the maximum values of the image.
Extract Minimum (White - Inverted)
Extracts the minimum values of the image and inverts the pixels.
Extract Minimum (White)
Extracts the minimum values of the image.
Vegetation from CIR - Darker Selective, Darker, Lighter Selective, Lighter
Extracts vegetation based on NDVI calculations of CIR imagery.
Remote Sensing Tools - Channels
(Channel swapping functions. Self explanatory.)
Remote Sensing Tools - Conversions
CIR to Naturaltone
Proprietary base algorithm to convert from Color Infrared to Pseudo Natural Color.
CIR to Naturaltone & Vegetation
Base calculation, plus NDVI vegetation enhancement.
Geocover to Naturaltone
Proprietary base algorithm to convert from Geocover 742 (NASA series - Zulu site) to Pseudo Natural Color.
Geocover to Naturaltone & Vegetation
Base calculation, plus vegetation enhancement based on modified NDVI algorithm.
Remote sensing Tools - Convolutions
Centre Weight Highpass - 2, 4, and 8
Specific highpass convolutions for both fine manual sharpening (as a layer) and ideal for pan-sharpening in Photoshop using the higher-resolution Pan source imagery.

Tip: (Set Pan layer to Linear Light for best pan-sharpen method.)
Remote Sensing Tools - Enhancement
Colour Boost - 0.125 to 1.00
Single-click color boosting methodology based on intensity values.
