Remote Sensing Tools Released

July 24th, 2007 · 3 Comments · Trackback/Ping · Share This

I’m proud to announce and finally make the Remote Sensing Tools compilation of plugins for Photoshop® available. This marks an interesting turning-point for me, as I debated for quite a while about whether or not I wished to distribute certain things that I’d considered ‘proprietary’ from my personal tool-kit.

Remote Sensing Tools Example

Visit the Shop, now listed above, for the following information and download/payment option. If in the event that there are any problems with attempting to make a payment or download the package after making a payment, please notify me using the Contact page here.

Remote Sensing Tools

Remote Sensing Tools is a small group, or family, of plugins compatible with Adobe® Photoshop®, designed as specific image processing solutions to enhance the production and editing of satellite and aerial imagery. Leveraging the flexible editing features within the Photoshop environment, adding value to the already nearly limitless combinations of techniques that can be executed by any knowledgable user, these tools aim to bridge the gaps between what capabilities that Remote Sensing and GIS tools may currently lack, and the commanding needs that anyone working with remotely sensed imagery might require.

The emphasis on these tools is precision and sometimes unique methods of solving problems in imagery processing where they exist, or where custom algorithms may be required. These tools have also been developed with the consideration that they can be used as a seamless enhancement to the already powerful capability of the only geospatial plugin for Photoshop of its kind, Avenza’s Geographic Imager.

Version

Build 1

Remote Sensing Tools
(Currently Windows only.)

Additional Compatibility Testing

  • Photoshop — Compatible with versions 5 through CS3.
  • IrfanView 4.0 — Remote Sensing Tools have been tested as compatible with the .8bf filters extension. Make sure you read the IrfanView documentation on how to load and run Adobe .8bf filters.
  • The Gimp 2.2 with PSPI.exe extension (to run Photoshop .8bf files) — is NOT compatible. PSPI.exe produces errors, claiming that a category for each plug-in cannot be found.
  • JASC PSP 9, Corel’s Paint Shop Pro XI — have been tested and confirmed as compatible with Remote Sensing Tools.
  • Macromedia Fireworks MX — Tested as compatible, though not recommended unless for small imaging or marketing tasks. (Tested due to availability and to test how the program adheres to the Photoshop Plug-in architecture.)

Additional testing will be forthcoming as time allows. If you have a program you wish to recommend, please contact me and I’ll take it into consideration.

Hope the tools will be available for GIMP as well.

    Gislandia,

The plug-ins are standard .8bf files, and as a result are likely to be compatible in any program that has support for the Photoshop .8bf Filters architecture. However, I have not performed those tests yet — thus I have not made any guarantees or confirmations.

You might wish to look into this extension for The GIMP if you’d like to run Photoshop compatible plug-ins — though, I cannot guarantee that all plug-ins available in the market would be compatible. You’d have to check with the plug-in developer to see it has been tested.

IrfanView is of course another option that has Photoshop .8bf compatibility. As well as Corel’s Paint Shop Pro.

For now, I’m only recommending their use in Photoshop — until I can make those confirmations.

Additional compatibility testing has been added to this page, as well as updated in the Shop.
