MySpace Adopts Amber Alert

I just noticed through my MySpace account, that Amber Alert is now present and functional. The current alert was a local notification of a mother and her three children abducted and possibly enroute to Florida in a burgundy colored Dodge Caravan.

I had gone back and forth a little with Dave Troy a while back, introducing the idea of an Amber Alert mash-up al la FlickrVision. He liked the idea, but was busy at the time.

The main problem I encountered, when looking into Amber Alert — is that the XML feed isn’t publicly accessible. You must first become an approved organization or entity by submitting to the powers-that-be, as well as submit documentation about the system you wish to build or provide. This also leads to what I’ve noticed as being proprietary created software apps that you then have to pay for, just to gain access or present a public service announcement. (So not in the interest of the greater good, one could reason.)
