Specifications for the Optimus Maximus Keyboard have been officially released. The keyboard offers an impressive benefit to any user by lighting each key with the function it’s associated with using OLED technology. The flexibility this keyboard offers with its user-configurable options is actually more elegant than I was expecting to see! When can I get my hands on one?
Specifications from the site, barring dimensions listed, include a 10.1 millimeter visible key area, 48 x 48 pixel resolution (larger .ico icon size), 10 fps frame rate, a viewing angle of 160°, and connection via USB 2.0 (backward compatible to version 1) — supporting Windows XP or Vista, and Mac OS X 10.4.8 or higher. Other interesting features are an ambient light sensor to detect the amount of radiation the keys require to be visible, an SD card slot to store layout configurations, and an optional K-lock.
The keyboard comes with the Optimus Configurator software, for full control over the interface and with support for languages and software layouts. The Optimus Configurator also allows the adding of custom-defined layouts, so a user can set functions for the use of any software program — allowing for a nearly limitless range of value [ie: If you need a layout for Google Earth, or any application that has short-cut functions — just add a new layout for that program!].
